Inverted Jenny Airmail Stamp
United States · 1918 · 24¢
The stamp features a blue Curtiss JN-4H 'Jenny' biplane printed upside down within a carmine rose frame. The frame includes 'U.S. POSTAGE' at the top and '24 CENTS' at the bottom.
This stamp is one of the most famous and valuable errors in philately, issued for the inauguration of the first regular airmail service in the United States. The inversion occurred due to a printing error where the sheet was fed into the press upside down for the second color.
