US Beer Revenue Stamp, 25c, 1866 Issue (Die Proof)

This circular revenue stamp die proof features an eagle in the center, surrounded by 'U.S. INTERNAL REVENUE' at the top and '25 CENTS BEER' at the bottom. It was designed to be affixed to beer barrels.
Issued during the post-Civil War era, this stamp was part of the U.S. Internal Revenue system to collect taxes on beer. Its design ensured destruction upon opening the barrel, preventing reuse.
