The stamp features 'BRADY & CO.' at the top and 'NEW YORK' at the bottom, with '1 CENT' centrally placed within an ornate rectangular frame. It is imperforate and printed in red on unglazed yellow paper.
This is a known forgery (Forgery D) of a 1-cent local post stamp issued by Brady & Co. in New York around 1859. Local posts were private mail services operating in the United States before the establishment of a comprehensive national postal system.
