United States Airmail 'Curtiss Jenny' Stamp

United States · 1918 · 24c

This stamp features a blue Curtiss JN-4 "Jenny" biplane, a primary military training aircraft for the United States during World War I. The design is framed by a carmine rose border. It was the first stamp issued specifically for airmail service in the United States.

Issued to pay the rate for the inaugural U.S. airmail route between Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City, this stamp marks the beginning of regular airmail service in America.
