Russian Consular Air Post, 50 Kopecks on 5 Rubles
Russia · 1922 · 50 Kopecks on 5 Rubles
This stamp is an overprint on a 1917 5-ruble definitive stamp. The overprint, applied in black, features a winged post horn and a new denomination of 50 kopecks, specifically for use on airmail correspondence from the Russian consulate in Berlin to Moscow.
Issued in 1922, this was the first airmail stamp of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR). It facilitated the first regular international airmail service between Berlin and Moscow, a significant step in re-establishing postal connections after World War I and the Russian Revolution.
