Ukraine · 1992 · 25 Ukrainian karbovanets
This stamp commemorates the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). The design features the UPA emblem, a trident (tryzub) superimposed on a red and black flag, which were the colors of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN). It was one of the first stamps issued by newly independent Ukraine.
Issued shortly after Ukraine declared independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, this stamp honored a nationalist military organization that fought against both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union during and after World War II.
