Queen Elizabeth II Definitives (1954-59)

Kenya, Uganda, and Tanganyika · 1954 · Various

This definitive series features a central portrait of the young Queen Elizabeth II, based on a photograph by Dorothy Wilding. The set includes various denominations, each with a unique frame design incorporating local industries and wildlife, such as coffee, cotton, cloves, sisal, giraffes, and Mount Kilimanjaro. The stamps were printed by De La Rue & Co. using the recess printing method.

Issued for use in the British colonial territories of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanganyika, this set reflects the period of British East Africa under the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II. It was the first definitive series of her reign for the region.
