Republic of China (Taiwan) 1949 Airmail Surcharge 50 Cents on 5 Cents Green (Taipei Edition)

Republic of China (Taiwan) · 1949 · 50 Cents New Taiwan Dollar

This stamp features a flying goose design, originally issued as a 5-cent airmail stamp. It was later surcharged in 1949 with '新臺幣伍角' (50 Cents New Taiwan Dollar) in black ink, transforming it into a provisional issue.

Issued during a period of hyperinflation and currency reform in the Republic of China, shortly after the government relocated to Taiwan. These 'Taipei Surcharges' were provisional measures to adapt existing stamp stock to the new currency system.
