Trinidad and Tobago Postage Due Stamp

Trinidad and Tobago · 1905 · 1d

This is a postage due stamp, designed to indicate the amount of postage to be collected from the recipient of an underpaid letter. The design is purely functional, featuring a large numeral '1' for the denomination within an ornate frame, with 'TRINIDAD & TOBAGO' and 'POSTAGE DUE' inscribed.

Issued in 1905, this was the first postage due stamp for the combined colony of Trinidad and Tobago. Such stamps were a common feature of postal systems in the early 20th century to regularize the collection of insufficient postage.
