Tunisia 1947 Solidarity Fund Surcharge on Amphitheatre of El Djem
Tunisia · 1947 · 10f + 10f
This semi-postal stamp features a view of the ancient Roman Amphitheatre of El Djem. It is an overprint and surcharge on a 1943 definitive stamp (Scott 182). The overprint reads 'SOLIDARITÉ' in red, and the original 10 franc denomination is surcharged with an additional 10 francs to raise funds for a national solidarity fund.
Issued under the French Protectorate, this stamp was part of a post-war effort to raise funds for social welfare and reconstruction through the 'Solidarité' (Solidarity) fund.
