Tunisia Postage Due Stamp, Coat of Arms
Tunisia · 1888 · 10c
This is one of the first postage due stamps issued by Tunisia under the French Protectorate. The design features the denomination '10' prominently in the center, flanked by Arabic script, with the country name 'TUNISIE' at the top and 'CHIFFRE TAXE A PERCEVOIR' (figure tax to be collected) at the bottom. The stamp is printed in black on green paper.
Issued in 1888, this stamp reflects the establishment of French postal administration in Tunisia, which began in 1881. Postage due stamps were used to collect insufficient postage from the recipient of a letter.
