Thailand 1883 First Issue, 1 Solot Indigo

Thailand · 1883 · 1 Solot

This is the first postage stamp issued by Siam (now Thailand). The design features a portrait of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) facing left, set within an ornate oval frame. The denomination '1 SOLOT' is inscribed at the bottom.

Issued to mark the establishment of a formal postal service in Siam, this stamp series, known as the Solot series, replaced the use of British India stamps in Bangkok and initiated the country's independent philatelic history.
