Thailand 1883 First Issue, 1 Solot
Thailand · 1883 · 1 Solot
This stamp is the first postage stamp issued by Siam (now Thailand). The design features a portrait of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) facing left, set within an ornate oval frame. The denomination '1 SOLOT' is inscribed at the bottom, with Siamese script at the top.
Issued in 1883 to mark the establishment of a formal postal service in Siam, this series, known as the Solot series, replaced the use of British India stamps in Bangkok. The stamps were printed by Waterlow and Sons in London.
