Slovakia Postage Due Stamp, Red Numeral

Slovakia · 1939 · 50h

This is one of the first postage due stamps issued by the newly independent Slovak State. The design is purely functional, featuring a large red numeral '50' indicating the amount due, framed by simple decorative elements and the inscription 'DOPLATNÉ'. The stamp's purpose was to collect insufficient postage from the recipient of a mail item.

Issued in 1939, this stamp marks the establishment of the First Slovak Republic, a client state of Nazi Germany, following the dismemberment of Czechoslovakia just before World War II.
