Slovakia 1927 'L'espagnol' Postage Due Error
Slovakia · 1927 · 50h
This is a 50h postage due stamp from the 1927 series, which was printed in Prague. The stamp is famous for a significant printing error where the inscription 'PORTO' was misspelled as 'POSTA' on one stamp in the sheet. This error occurred because a single cliché from a Yugoslavian stamp plate was mistakenly inserted into the Slovakian printing plate.
Known as 'L'espagnol' by some collectors, this error stamp is one of the greatest rarities of Slovakian and Czechoslovakian philately. Its unique origin story, involving a mix-up of printing plates from two different countries, makes it highly sought after.
