Postage Due Stamp, Green Surcharge on Newspaper Stamp

Czechoslovakia · 1927 · 50h on 2h

This is a postage due stamp created by surcharging an existing newspaper stamp. The original 2 haleru orange newspaper stamp, featuring a stylized falcon, was overprinted in green with 'DOPLATIT' (meaning 'to pay') and a new value of 50 haleru. This provisional issue was a practical measure to meet the demand for postage due stamps.

Issued in post-WWI Czechoslovakia, this stamp reflects a period of economic adjustment where overprinting existing stamp stock was a common and cost-effective practice for postal administrations.
