Slovenia, German Occupation of Ljubljana (Provinz Laibach)

Slovenia · 1943 ·

This series of stamps was issued for the Province of Ljubljana (Provinz Laibach) following its occupation by Nazi Germany during World War II. The designs feature local landscapes, such as Lake Bled, and portraits of regional figures, overprinted with German text and denominations. The overprints signify the shift in administrative control and were applied to existing Yugoslavian definitive stamps.

After the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia in 1941, Slovenia was partitioned. The Province of Ljubljana, initially occupied by Italy, was taken over by Germany in September 1943 after the Italian armistice. These stamps represent the German administration's brief but significant period of control.
