Slovenia Coat of Arms, Chain Breaker Issue
Slovenia · 1919 · 3 vinarjev
This stamp, part of the first series for Slovenia, features the new coat of arms of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs. The central design depicts a man breaking the chains of bondage, symbolizing newfound freedom and independence after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The denomination is shown in the lower corners.
Issued in January 1919, this was among the very first postage stamps for Slovenia following the end of World War I and the formation of the short-lived State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, which soon merged into the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia).
