Slovenia 1919 Chainbreakers, 3 Filler on 3 Heller, Red
Slovenia · 1919 · 3 Filler on 3 Heller
This stamp features the iconic "Chainbreaker" design, an allegory for liberation and the establishment of a new state. A muscular figure is depicted breaking chains against a backdrop of a rising sun. This particular version is a 3 Heller stamp originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, overprinted with "SHS" (State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs) and a new denomination of 3 Filler for use in Slovenia.
Issued in January 1919, this was among the very first stamps for the Slovenian region following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the formation of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, which would soon become the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
