Straits Settlements Queen Victoria Postage Stamp
Straits Settlements · 1867 · 2 Cents
This definitive stamp features a left-facing portrait of Queen Victoria, based on the 'Diadem' design by William Wyon. The stamp is inscribed 'STRAITS SETTLEMENTS POSTAGE' and shows the denomination 'TWO CENTS' at the bottom.
This was among the first series of stamps issued for the Straits Settlements in 1867, after the colony was transferred from the control of British India to direct British rule as a Crown Colony. These stamps were overprinted on existing East India Company issues.
