Sudan 1927-1930 Postage Due Set, Gunboat 'Zafir'
Sudan · 1927 · 2m, 4m, 10m
This set of three postage due stamps features a central vignette of the gunboat 'Zafir' on the Nile River. The design is framed by an ornate border with the denomination in both English and Arabic numerals, and the country name 'SUDAN' at the top. The stamps were printed by De La Rue & Co. on paper with a Multiple Quatrefoils and Star watermark.
Issued under the Anglo-Egyptian Condominium, these stamps reflect the importance of Nile riverboats for transport and administration in Sudan during the early 20th century. The 'Zafir' was one of several gunboats used for patrol and official duties.
