Sicily 2 Grana, Blue, 1859
Sicily · 1859 · 2 Grana
This classic stamp from the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies features the portrait of King Ferdinand II, facing right. The design is enclosed in a rectangular frame with the denomination 'GR. 2' at the bottom and 'BOLLO DELLA POSTA NAPOLETANA' inscribed around the portrait. The stamp is printed in a distinct shade of blue.
Issued in 1859, this was one of the first and last stamps of the independent Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The kingdom was conquered and annexed into the newly unified Kingdom of Italy just a year later in 1860.
