Serbia German Occupation Surcharge Varieties
Serbia (German Occupation) · 1941 · Various
This series consists of definitive stamps from the Kingdom of Yugoslavia overprinted with 'SERBIEN' during the German occupation in World War II. The stamps feature portraits of King Peter II and various national landscapes, with the new country designation surcharged in black or red ink. Numerous printing varieties exist, such as inverted or double surcharges, making them a specialized collecting area.
Issued in 1941 after the Axis invasion and partition of Yugoslavia, these stamps represent the establishment of the German-occupied Territory of the Military Commander in Serbia. They were a transitional measure, adapting existing Yugoslavian postage for use under the new administration.
