Yugoslavia 1919 3L on 4h Green, King Peter I
Yugoslavia · 1919 · 3L on 4h
This stamp is an overprint on a 1918 Bosnia and Herzegovina issue. The original stamp, featuring Emperor Karl I, was overprinted with 'KRALJEVSTVO SHS' (Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes) and a portrait of King Peter I of Serbia. The original face value was also surcharged to 3L.
Issued in the immediate aftermath of World War I, this overprint reflects the political transition from the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, which would later be known as Yugoslavia.
