Serbia 1941, King Peter II Overprinted 'SERBIEN'
Serbia · 1941 · 50 Para
This stamp features a portrait of the young King Peter II of Yugoslavia. It is an overprinted version of a 1939 Yugoslavian definitive, with 'SERBIEN' in black ink applied by German occupation authorities. The overprint signifies the establishment of the puppet state, the Government of National Salvation, in the Territory of the Military Commander in Serbia.
Issued during the German occupation of Serbia in World War II, these overprinted stamps replaced existing Yugoslavian issues and were the first stamps of the new collaborationist Serbian state.
