Moldavian Bull's Head, 27 Parale
Romania · 1858 · 27 Parale
This stamp features the head of an aurochs (bull), the coat of arms of the Principality of Moldavia. A five-pointed star is positioned between its horns, and a post horn is below the head. The denomination is inscribed in Cyrillic script within the horn's circle.
Issued by the Principality of Moldavia before its union with Wallachia to form Romania, this was the first postage stamp of the region. It is one of the most famous and valuable classic stamps in European philately.
