Romania 'Cap de Bour' (Bull's Head) Newspaper Stamp
Romania · 1858 · 27 Parale
This stamp features the head of an aurochs (or bull), the coat of arms of the Principality of Moldavia, along with a post horn, a five-pointed star, and the denomination. The Cyrillic inscription translates to 'Porto Scrisorei' (Postage for a letter). This is one of the first and most iconic stamps issued in the Romanian principalities.
Issued in 1858 by the Principality of Moldavia, before its union with Wallachia to form Romania, the 'Cap de Bour' stamps are legendary in European philately. They were in use for only a few months, making them exceptionally scarce.
