Transylvania, King Charles IV Coronation
Romania · 1919 · 10f
This stamp commemorates the coronation of King Charles IV of Hungary, which took place in 1916. The design features a portrait of the king within an ornate frame, overprinted with 'TRANSILVANIA' to signify its use in the region following World War I. This is the first stamp from a set of two issued for this purpose.
Issued in 1919 during the Romanian occupation of Transylvania after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, these stamps were Hungarian issues overprinted for local use before new Romanian stamps were introduced.
