This stamp features the crowned Polish eagle, the national coat of arms, set against a red background. The inscription 'POCZTA POLSKA' (Polish Post) appears at the top. This was the first stamp issued by the Polish Government-in-Exile in London during World War II.
Issued in London during the German occupation of Poland, these stamps were intended for use on mail from Polish armed forces and merchant marine vessels, asserting Polish sovereignty despite the occupation.
