Pakistan 1947 'SERVICE' Overprint Official Stamps
Pakistan · 1947 · Various (3 pies to 1 rupee)
This set of official stamps features definitive issues of British India overprinted in black with the word 'SERVICE'. The underlying designs include portraits of King George VI and various Indian architectural and agricultural scenes. These were among the first stamps issued for official government use by the newly independent Dominion of Pakistan.
Issued shortly after the Partition of India in August 1947, these overprinted stamps represent a transitional period, utilizing existing British Indian stamp stock before Pakistan could produce its own unique designs.
