Pakistan 1947 3½a 'Scinde Dawk' Commemorative

Pakistan · 1947 · 3½a

This stamp commemorates the 'Scinde Dawk', the first postage stamp issued in Asia in 1852. The design features the emblem of the Scinde Dawk, a heart-shaped device with the merchant's mark of the East India Company, surrounded by a circular band inscribed 'SCINDE DISTRICT DAWK'. This issue was part of Pakistan's first definitive series following its independence.

Issued shortly after the partition of India and the creation of Pakistan in August 1947, this stamp was part of the new nation's inaugural definitive set, establishing its postal independence.
