Philippines 1854 Queen Isabella II

Philippines · 1854 · 5 Cuartos

This is the first postage stamp issued by the Philippines, then a Spanish colony. The design features a profile portrait of Queen Isabella II of Spain, facing left, within an oval frame. The inscription reads "CORREOS 1854 Y 55" (Mails 1854 and 55) at the top and "FRANCO 5 CUARTOS" at the bottom.

Issued under Spanish colonial rule, this stamp marked the beginning of the postal system in the Philippines, making it the first country in Asia to issue adhesive postage stamps.
