Peru 1858 1 Dinero Blue, Pacific Steam Navigation Company

Peru · 1858 · 1 Dinero

This stamp, Peru's first, features a central design of a steamship, representing the Pacific Steam Navigation Company, which held the mail contract. The inscription reads 'PORTE FRANCO' at the top and 'PSNC LIMA' at the bottom, with the denomination 'UN DINERO' in the center. The design is simple, reflecting the early period of stamp production.

Issued in 1858, this was one of the first postage stamps in South America. It was issued by the Pacific Steam Navigation Company for mail carried on its ships between Peruvian ports, predating the official government issues.
