Peru 1858 Coat of Arms, 1 Dinero, Blue
Peru · 1858 · 1 Dinero
This stamp features the Peruvian coat of arms, a classic design for early issues. The central shield is divided into three sections, representing the nation's wealth in the animal, vegetable, and mineral kingdoms: a vicuña, a cinchona tree, and a cornucopia of gold coins. The design is framed by an ornate border with the denomination 'UN DINERO' at the bottom.
This is one of the first postage stamps issued by Peru, part of the inaugural 1858 series. These stamps replaced the pre-adhesive postal markings and signified Peru's entry into the modern postal system established by the UPU.
