This commemorative series celebrates the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco. The set features four designs: the 1¢ stamp shows Vasco Núñez de Balboa, the first European to see the Pacific Ocean; the 2¢ depicts the Pedro Miguel Locks of the Panama Canal; the 5¢ shows the Golden Gate; and the 10¢ illustrates the discovery of San Francisco Bay.

Issued to promote and celebrate the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, which marked the completion of the Panama Canal and the 400th anniversary of Balboa's discovery of the Pacific Ocean.
