Canal Zone Postage Due, J1-J5

Canal Zone · 1914 · 1c, 2c, 10c

This series of postage due stamps features a large numeral indicating the amount due, framed by an ornate design. The text 'CANAL ZONE' appears at the top, 'POSTAGE DUE' is split between the left and right sides, and the denomination in words is at the bottom. The stamps were printed in a carmine rose color.

Issued in 1914, these were the first postage due stamps for the Canal Zone, used to collect insufficient postage on mail. They were created by overprinting existing United States postage due stamps with the words 'CANAL ZONE'.
