This commemorative set of four stamps was issued to celebrate the 1913 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. The designs feature historical figures and scenes related to the discovery and exploration of the Pacific Ocean and the construction of the Panama Canal. The 1c stamp depicts Vasco Núñez de Balboa, the 2c shows the Pedro Miguel Locks of the Panama Canal, the 5c portrays the Golden Gate, and the 10c features the discovery of San Francisco Bay.
