Nepal 1881 First Issue, 1 Anna
Nepal · 1881 · 1 Anna
This is the first postage stamp issued by the Kingdom of Nepal. The design features the crossed Gurkha daggers, or 'khukuris', below a conch shell and the sacred footprints of Vishnu, all surmounted by the royal crown. The inscriptions are in native Devanagari script.
Issued during the Rana dynasty, this stamp marks Nepal's entry into the global postal system, though its use was initially limited to within the kingdom's borders.
