The stamp features the Norwegian coat of arms, a lion rampant holding an axe, within an ornate rectangular frame. 'NORGE' is inscribed at the top and '4 SKILLING' at the bottom.
This 1855 issue is one of Norway's earliest postage stamps, part of the 'Trondheim' series. The depicted block of 39 is historically significant as the largest known multiple of this particular stamp.
