Norway Posthorn Stamp, 3 Skilling
Norway · 1872 · 3 Skilling
This definitive stamp features the iconic Norwegian post horn design, a symbol of the country's postal service. The central design includes a crowned post horn with the denomination '3' inside, surrounded by an ornate circular frame with 'NORGE' at the top and 'SKILLING' at the bottom. The design, originally created by Wilhelm von Hanno, is one of the world's longest-running stamp motifs.
Issued in 1872, this stamp was part of the second series of post horn definitives, which updated the currency from 'Sk' to the full 'Skilling'. This series continued the use of a design that has remained a staple of Norwegian philately for over 150 years.
