Burma: British Military Administration Overprint Issue
Myanmar · 1945 · Various
This set features pre-war definitive stamps of Burma depicting King George VI, overprinted with 'B.M.A.' (British Military Administration). The overprints were applied to existing stock to re-establish postal services following the Allied liberation of Burma from Japanese forces. The underlying designs show the British monarch, a common feature of colonial-era philately.
Issued in 1945, these stamps mark the brief period of British military rule in Burma after the end of World War II, before the country moved towards independence in 1948.
