This set of six stamps was issued by Myanmar (then Burma) in 1954 to commemorate the Sixth Buddhist Council (Chattha Sangayana). The designs feature various significant Buddhist pagodas, temples, and landscapes related to the event, including the Kaba Aye Pagoda and the Mahapasana Cave.

The Sixth Buddhist Council was held in Yangon (Rangoon), Burma, from 1954 to 1956, bringing together monks from various Buddhist countries to recite and purify the Tipitaka (Buddhist scriptures). This event marked a significant moment for Buddhist revival in post-independence Burma.
