Prince Nicholas I of Montenegro, 1893 Definitive Issue
Montenegro · 1893 · 2 novčića
This stamp features a left-facing portrait of Prince Nicholas I, who ruled Montenegro for over 50 years. The design is framed by an ornate oval, with the denomination '2 NOVČIĆA' at the bottom and Cyrillic text 'ЦРНА ГОРА' (Crna Gora) at the top. This was part of Montenegro's second definitive series, printed in Vienna.
Issued during the Principality of Montenegro, this stamp reflects the long reign of Nicholas I, who would later become the country's first and only king. The use of the novčić currency predates the introduction of the perper in 1906.
