Libya 1912-15 Overprint Issue, Complete Set

Libya · 1912 · Various (1c to 1L)

This complete set features the first stamps issued for the Italian colony of Libya. The stamps are definitive issues of Italy from the early 20th century, overprinted with the word "LIBIA" in black capital letters. The designs of the underlying Italian stamps include portraits of King Victor Emmanuel III and various allegorical figures.

Issued shortly after Italy seized the territory from the Ottoman Empire during the Italo-Turkish War (1911-1912), these overprinted stamps mark the beginning of Italian colonial administration in Libya.
