Luxembourg 1923 Souvenir Sheet, 10 Francs

Luxembourg · 1923 · 10 F

This is the world's first souvenir sheet, issued to commemorate the birth of Princess Elisabeth. The sheet contains a single 10 Francs stamp featuring a portrait of the newborn princess, surrounded by an ornate border with the coats of arms of Luxembourg and Nassau. It was sold at the International Philatelic Exhibition in Luxembourg for a premium over its face value.

Issued in 1923, this sheet marks a significant innovation in philately, establishing the concept of the souvenir sheet. Its release celebrated the continuation of the ruling dynasty of Luxembourg.
