Luxembourg 1852 King William III

Luxembourg · 1852 · 10 Centimes

This is the first postage stamp issued by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The design features a profile portrait of King William III of the Netherlands, who was also the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. The stamp is inscribed 'POSTES' at the top and the denomination 'DIX CENT.' at the bottom.

Issued on September 15, 1852, this stamp marked Luxembourg's entry into the postal union and standardized its mail services, replacing a system of varied postal rates.
