Luxembourg 1957 Europa Issue
Luxembourg · 1957 · 2.50F + 4F
This set of two stamps was Luxembourg's contribution to the first Europa issue, a joint stamp release by the six founding members of the European Coal and Steel Community. The 2.50F stamp features a stylized tree with its roots forming the word 'EUROPA', symbolizing growth and unity. The 4F stamp depicts a tower under construction, also incorporating the word 'EUROPA' into its scaffolding, representing the building of a new, integrated Europe.
Issued in 1957, these stamps commemorate the Treaty of Rome, which established the European Economic Community (EEC). This was a pivotal moment in post-war European integration, laying the groundwork for the modern European Union.
