Luxembourg 1923 Birth of Princess Elisabeth Souvenir Sheet

Luxembourg · 1923 · 10 Francs

This is the world's first souvenir sheet, issued to commemorate the birth of Princess Elisabeth of Luxembourg. The sheet contains a single 10 Francs stamp featuring a view of Luxembourg City, surrounded by an ornate border with the coats of arms of the House of Nassau-Weilburg and the House of Bourbon-Parma. The text celebrates the birth of the princess to Grand Duchess Charlotte and Prince Felix.

Issued on January 3, 1923, this sheet is a landmark in philatelic history, establishing the format of the souvenir sheet. It was sold for a premium over its face value to raise funds for charity.
