Lithuania First Issue, Vilnius Issue
Lithuania · 1918 · 10 skatikų
This is the first postage stamp issued by Lithuania following its declaration of independence. The design features the Vytis (the White Knight), Lithuania's national coat of arms, printed on German newspaper paper due to a lack of proper materials. It was initially intended as a postage due stamp but was used for regular postage.
Issued in Vilnius in December 1918, this stamp marks the birth of Lithuania's postal system as a newly independent nation after the end of World War I and the collapse of the Russian Empire.
