Central Lithuania 1920 25 Fenigų Sower Overprint

Central Lithuania · 1920 · 25 Fenigų

This stamp features a sower in a field, a design originally from a 1919 Lithuanian issue. It has been overprinted with 'Litwa Środkowa' (Central Lithuania) and a new denomination of 25 Fenigų. The overprint signifies the political change and establishment of the short-lived Republic of Central Lithuania.

Issued following the Żeligowski's Mutiny, this stamp was part of the first series for the newly proclaimed Republic of Central Lithuania, a Polish-backed statelet that existed from 1920 to 1922 before its annexation by Poland.
